Inquiring minds want to know…

When can my teen start their on-line Driver’s Ed course?

They can start right away! After you create your Greenlight account (as directed in your purchase confirmation email) and login, you will see the link to access the on-line course. Quick notes: A) The course is self-paced and can be done from any device. B) Make sure the driver completes the course approximately 2-3 weeks before their Permit Test to allow time for the Certificate of Completion to be mailed to your home. C) Remember to bring the Certificate of Completion to the Permit test appointment.

When can my teen start the simulator and behind-the-wheel training?

The beauty of the simulator is that you don’t have to wait for learner’s permits or licenses!  We can get new drivers started early so they’re better prepared when they get on the road for the first time in real life. With that in mind, we recommend Greenlight for anyone aged 15 and up. We’ve trained 15 year olds – 70 year olds! The one caveat is that some adults do experience motion sickness and we recommend anyone over the age of 20 to book a free demo drive first to ensure that is not a problem for them.

For anyone under 18, we are not able to begin our behind-the-wheel instruction until they have their Learner’s Permit. Additionally, our behind-the-wheel training is only available to students who have completed our first two sim trainings, AND received instructor approval to move on to behind-the-wheel lessons.

What if my new driver already has their permit?

That’s great! If they haven’t started their behind-the-wheel training yet they should start with our Road-Ready Package w/out Driver’s Ed

My driver is nervous about driving, can you help?

Absolutely. Our simulator-based training has already helped lots of people who experience high anxiety around driving to become more comfortable behind the wheel.  In fact, one of the great benefits of the simulator is that they can learn in a low consequence environment without all of the fear, stress, and anxiety about accidents, tickets, injuries, and damage. When we take away all of those negatives we remove barriers to learning and help our trainees build the skills, experience, and confidence they need to transition comfortably to real world driving. Hear how our simulation training is helpful for anxious drivers.

How do I book my sessions?

Once you purchase your package, you will be sent an email with a link to create an account that will allow you to track and book your sessions. We do not book sessions over the phone and require 24-hour advance booking (no same day booking). Pro Tip: Because our package sessions are done in order, we encourage you to book one session at a time. That way you only have to reschedule one session vs. all of them. Please note that Session 3 of our Behind-the-Wheel training can only be booked on a Saturday or Sunday.

How should we pace our sessions?

For our simulator trainings, we encourage you to keep the initial sessions close together (no more than a week apart). The last sessions can be more spread out but it’s best if you can maintain a weekly cadence.

For our behind-the-wheel sessions we encourage you to keep the first two close together (again no more than a week apart). The final two can be more spread out.

What is your cancellation & rescheduling policy?

We have a 12 hour reschedule/cancellation policy for all sessions through your confirmation email booking link. If you need to cancel or reschedule less than 12 hours in advance, please call or text us at 925/302-2544.

Where are you located?

To date we have one location at 730 Camino Ramon (Suite 130) in Danville. It is right off 680 at the Sycamore Valley exit. We are conveniently located next to Starbucks so you can grab a coffee while your student is in their session. We are hoping to open more locations across the Bay Area in the near future.

What are your hours?

During the school year we keep school hours. We are open Mon.-Thurs. 3pm – 6pm, and Sat.-Sun. 11am – 5pm.

During the summer, we are open 11am – 6pm Mon.-Thurs., and Sat.-Sun. 11am – 5pm.

Does your program accommodate individuals with exceptional needs?

Yes! Simulator-based training is actually proven to be particularly effective for some in this community. We have developed a special one-on-one Discovery Drive to get them started. Learn more here.

Are you a CA DMV Licensed Driving School?

Yes! Our license is E4563 under Apex Driving School, 533 Airport Blvd. Suite 430. Burlingame, CA 94010.

What can I expect during a simulator training session?

You mean besides 100% pure awesomeness? In addition to said awesomeness, you can expect a 1 hour driving simulator session composed of 3 to 5 distinct training lessons, aka “Drives” in Greenlight speak. Hear why our sessions are 1 hour. Additionally, your driver will receive feedback, training tips, and virtual coaching from Greenlight’s driver evaluation software. You will receive drive scorecards, showing you how your driver performed on several key safety and vehicle handling metrics, along with video replays their drives, complete with an eye tracking overlay.  Want to give it a spin? Sign up for a free demo drive here.

Is parking practice incorporated into the simulator trainings?

This is not a focus in our training as that is something that is safe and easy to practice in real life. The drills incorporated into our curriculum are intended to allow drivers to practice things that are difficult or more dangerous to do in real life.

Eye-Tracking. Wait. What?

Truly state-of-the-art! Did you know that most drivers don’t look far enough down the road? Our integrated eye-tracking technology not only helps to train the eyes on where to look, it captures the driver’s eye movements in real time so that we can replay the driving session and show the driver where they were looking vs. where they should have been looking! We really can “see what they see” now. Just another awesome benefit Greenlight offers that you can’t get in a traditional driver training program. Learn more about the value of our eye tracking technology here.

What can I expect during a behind-the-wheel training session?

Please plan to drop your new driver off at the Danville Training Center at least 5 minutes early. We’ve carefully structured the four (4) 1.5-hour driving sessions to cover the DMV-required skills while incorporating other essential driving skills that will help develop them into well-rounded, confident drivers. The third session will be freeway-heavy and is only available to schedule on a Saturday or Sunday. Each session will be recorded, and you’ll receive a short video recap from the instructor, highlighting their progress and providing suggestions on what you can practice with your driver.

Can we sign up for your behind-the-wheel lessons without doing simulator training?

No, we require all behind-the-wheel students to go through our designated simulator training and be approved by our instructors to move on to behind-the-wheel lessons.

What if we are unable to finish a package?

No Problem! We offer a Worry-Free Guarantee: If Greenlight isn’t right for you, just let us know and we’ll refund any unused portion of your training package.

Do the simulator trainings replace existing behind the wheel training?

No it doesn’t, but it does make you better prepared for it!

Currently, there is no legal way (we’re looking at you, you 15-year-old parking lot practicers!) to get a basic skills foundation before being thrown behind the wheel of a car with a stranger. Greenlight offers a better, safer way to get started so that you begin your behind-the-wheel lessons with a higher level of skill, knowledge, and confidence making that training significantly better. We look at it like swim lessons, most of you sought out experts to teach your kids to swim before you took the floaties off. Greenlight teaches the “how” and in the safety of the simulator, which in turn gives them the confidence to know that they are ready to take the wheel! Hear why our training is so valuable.

Does the simulator training count towards getting a license?

Not yet, but we’re working on it!

Currently in California, a new driver is required to have 6 hours of professional behind the wheel instruction (which we firmly believe in and are not trying to replace or reduce) and also 50 hours of “supervised” practice with a licensed adult driver. It is our goal that we will be able to get some amount of simulator time to count towards that 50 hour requirement in the near future.

Does the simulator training count towards an insurance discount?

Not yet, but we’re working on it!

It is our goal to attain insurance discounts for Greenlight students.
